Tiger Talk June 10
On Tuesday, May 31st, five students from Reston School competed in the Zone 9 High School Track & Field Meet. Brayden Gervin competed in Jr. Boys Shot Put, 100 m and 200 m. Alaina Lobreau, Mackenzie Poirier, Charity Poirier and Michaela Halls competed in several events in the Junior Girls’ division. The weather was miserable but the students and their chaperones, Mrs. Michelle Gervin, Mrs. Alanna Gervin and Mrs. Kelly Poirier, endured the wind and the rain until the events were completed. Michaela placed 3rd in the 400 m event.
The gym was a busy place on the evening of Thursday, June 2nd. There was a BBQ supper, put on by the grad class at 6:00. A short concert was held starting at 7:00. The Grade 7 – 12 choir performed, followed by the Senior Band and the combined Grade 7 & 8 Band and Senior Band. This concert is the last performance of the year for all school groups.
Ms. Hurton’s Grade 4 ventured to Eternal Springs on Friday, June 3. They were grouped with other Grade 4 classes in the division to experience 4 stations on geology, soil testing, water testing and critter dipping.
Congratulations to Kayla Kirkpatrick, Carla Jospeh, Kaylin Hall and Dakota Renwick for placing third at provincial rugby in Souris this past weekend.
Eric Purvis, along with two students from Virden Collegiate and Mr. Holovach participated in a computer science competition in Winnipeg. They placed 4th out of some 20 teams.
Grades 7 – 12 watched a moving video by MADD (Mother’s Against Drunk Driving) on Tuesday morning. This year’s presentation was called 24 Hours, the story of three friends who attended a local ‘bush party’ thinking they had planned for a safe ride home but unfortunately the evening did not turn out as planned. Following the video the presenter talked about being proactive when you know you may be in a situation where alcohol or drugs may be involved. He also talked about the legalities of impaired driving not only for the driver but the fact that the homeowner is responsible for anyone leaving their residence impaired. The Elementary students saw the presentation Lulu Musique in the afternoon on Tuesday
The weather finally cooperated on Tuesday for the many Grades 5 – 8 students who participated in the divisional track meet at Elkhorn.
The week finished up with Tabloid Day on Thursday and the divisional Pow Wow in Virden for the elementary students.
June 16 is the last day of classes for Grades 7 – 12 with exams beginning Friday, June 17th. Also a reminder to everyone Reston School graduation ceremonies will be held on Thursday, June 23 at 7 pm in the Reston Rec Plex.
