On the sports scene from Mr. Callander and Ms. Main:
Congratulations to our badminton players who participated at provincials this weekend.
Kayla Kirkpatrick and Kyle Campion placed 3rd in their pool and then finished off 13th overall. Kallie-Jo Marsh & Mackenzie Poirier did not come home with any wins at provincials but gained some valuable experience for the upcoming years.
The Grades 7 and 8’s had a very successful season of badminton this year. Our doubles teams were Rylee MacKenzie and Eric Halls, Luisa Mendoza and Alora Campbell, Mason Swith and Shenesa Poirier, Brooke Poirier and Autumn Kirkpatrick. Two of our doubles teams Brooke and Autumn, and Mason and Shenesa made it to playoffs in Divisionals but unfortunately lost in the first round. For Singles we had Spencer Duncan, Carlo Reyes, Jonathan Coulter, Izzy Watt, Lillie Reaid, Brooke-lynn Rowand and Jessica Kristof. Brooke-lynn and Jessica both made it to the playoffs and Jessica went on to win 3rd place at Divisionals. She went on to zones winning second place.
Next up is Junior Track and Field. The students have been busy training and improving in their events to get ready for our school wide track meet on May 24th with our rain date set for May 26th. The divisional track meet is held in Elkhorn and will take place on May 31st with the rain date set for June 1st.
The high school baseball team defeated Killarney 16 – 5 at home on Sunday. Playing this year is John Patmore, Erik Forsyth, Kyle Campion, Billy Patmore and Alex Kirkpatrick.
Mrs. Schiltroth’s class has been busy making instruments. They presented their instruments on Monday and described how they changed pitch, volume and made sound!
The Grade 5/6 class along with some choir members attended the Shrek performance on Tuesday afternoon at the Virden Aud theater.
The Grad class is holding a bottle drive on Sunday, May 28th so be sure to save your pop cans and plastic bottles for them.
